Novelis and Fives Upgrade Melting Furnaces
In a significant stride towards sustainability, Novelis and Fives have successfully upgraded aluminium melting furnaces at Novelis’ facility in Voerde, Germany. This project embodies the commitment of both companies to enhance the decarbonization of industrial processes.
Reduced Emissions with Innovative Technology
In an effort to lower the carbon footprint, Novelis partnered with Fives to revamp three existing melting furnaces using Fives’ North American regenerative technology. The cutting-edge North American TwinBed II burners provided by Fives are designed for energy efficiency and minimal emissions.
The entire process, encompassing engineering, design, and commissioning, was expertly managed by Fives’ North American Combustion teams based in Bilbao, Spain. With the final furnace now operational, Novelis reports a remarkable reduction in carbon emissions—over 40% based on gas consumption compared to pre-upgrade levels recorded in mid-2023.
