Metalworking fluid Hocut 4260 approved by aerospace industry

The metalworking fluid Hocut 4260 by Quaker Houghton has gained worldwide approval from leading aerospace companies such as Airbus and BAE Systems.

Quaker Houghton, known for its industrial process fluids, announced that its Hocut 4260 metalworking soluble coolant has achieved significant endorsements from Airbus and BAE Systems. These approvals confirm the fluid’s ability to perform effectively in critical aerospace manufacturing applications.

Obtaining approval from aerospace OEMs entails a rigorous validation process. Suppliers need to prove that their products offer improvements in performance, cost, or efficiency over existing approved solutions. This involves exhaustive testing by the engineering and laboratory teams of the OEMs. The successful assessment of Hocut 4260 reaffirms its efficacy, with three Tier 1 suppliers recognizing it as the superior fluid for their machining operations.

BAE Systems has endorsed Hocut 4260 under specification BAE AMS AM00-00-01, which covers grinding and machining for various aluminum alloys, steels, and titanium used in BAE and F35 aircraft manufactured by Lockheed Martin. Likewise, Airbus approved it under AIPS00-00-010 for machining diverse materials such as plastics and composites, including unreinforced PA6, PA66, PEEK, PTFE, and non-continuous glass and carbon fiber reinforced materials.

Jonathan Dilley, Global Director of Aerospace and Defense at Quaker Houghton, stated, “These dual approvals from Airbus and BAE Systems represent a significant milestone for our aerospace customers. Hocut 4260’s proven performance in the most demanding aerospace applications showcases our commitment to providing innovative solutions that adhere to the industry’s strictest standards.”

Hocut 4260 is formulated as a heavy-duty metalworking fluid that is both boron-free and formaldehyde-free, specifically suited for aerospace materials. Its versatility extends to machining aerospace aluminum alloys (series 2000 and 7000), fiber composites, titanium alloys, and Inconel. A unique additive package helps minimize tool wear and enhances tool longevity. The fluid’s high detergency not only keeps the parts and work environment clean but also aids in reducing waste disposal and direct labor needs.

Furthermore, Hocut 4260’s low foaming properties make it suitable for high-speed and high-pressure operations across various water hardness levels. Its favorable Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) profile is enhanced by the absence of boron, formaldehyde, chlorine, secondary amine, and phenol.

  • The approval signifies that Hocut 4260 meets stringent industry standards, providing contractors and plant engineers with reliable performance in machining operations.
  • This coolant’s environmentally friendly formulation aligns with industry trends towards safer materials, potentially reducing regulatory concerns for contractors.
  • The fluid’s low foaming and high detergency characteristics can lead to lower maintenance costs and improved operational efficiency in industrial settings.
